Here’s why you shouldn’t trust a handyman with just one recommendation.
You should be wary of any handyman who only has one person they recommend for a job. This is part of why I got into this industry.
You might have someone who has done seven great jobs in a row. His work is quality, but then one day he gets a very expensive job done or decides he doesn’t need the money for this one, he doesn’t want to work in San Antonio, or he just doesn’t want to work on your job. Although the last seven jobs have been great, the eighth, ninth, and tenth are going to be awful. If you’re the eighth, ninth, or tenth client, it’s very possible you’ll get ripped off or the project will be delayed.
You want someone who has positive reviews online and a community of local clients.
That’s why you should find someone who has more than just an off-hand recommendation. You want someone who has positive reviews online and a community of local clients. Make sure they have a physical address too. You might have to pay a bit of a premium for them, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry, and your chances of getting ripped off are much, much lower.
